Eye Exam - What to expect

  • How often should I get an eye exam?

For most healthy individuals, an annual eye exam is recommended. Regular exams not only help keep your glasses or contact lens prescription up to date, but they can also detect signs of systemic health conditions early through a comprehensive dilated eye exam.

Patients with conditions such as glaucoma, diabetes, or macular degeneration may need to be seen more frequently, depending on their individual eye health needs.

  • What should I expect during my visit?

At San Juans Vision Source, we are committed to providing advanced, comprehensive eye care through the latest technology and ongoing education. As an Optometric Physician, Dr. White performs a detailed eye health evaluation that may include OCT imaging, fundus photography, auto-refraction, subjective refraction, dilation, and any additional testing necessary to ensure the most complete assessment of your vision and eye health.

  • Can I purchase glasses or contact lenses from your office?

Absolutely. Our experienced team is here to help you select the ideal eyewear or order contact lenses that fit your needs and lifestyle. Proper frame fitting is essential for both comfort and visual performance, and we are happy to guide you through the process to ensure you find the perfect fit.

Ocular Disease Management

At San Juans Vision Source, we provide far more than a routine eye exam. Our goal is to deliver comprehensive, personalized eye care to help protect and maintain your long-term ocular health. We offer diagnosis, treatment, and management for a wide range of eye conditions and visual concerns, including:

  • Diabetic Retinal Exams

Diabetes affects nearly 12% of the U.S. population and can have a significant impact on eye health and vision. Routine diabetic eye exams are essential for detecting retinal changes early and helping preserve healthy vision.

  • Glaucoma Management

Our office is experienced in the ongoing monitoring and treatment of glaucoma. Care may include regular eye pressure checks, visual field testing, prescription eye drops, and coordination with off-island ophthalmology specialists when necessary. We utilize advanced technology, including Goldmann Applanation Tonometry and a virtual visual field headset, to make testing more accurate and comfortable.

  • Macular Degeneration Care

We provide comprehensive evaluation and ongoing management for patients with macular degeneration to closely monitor changes in retinal health and vision. Advanced diagnostic imaging, including OCT and fundus photography, allows us to detect and track progression early, while more advanced treatment options and interventions are coordinated as needed.

  • Cataract Care

We work closely with ophthalmology specialists to help minimize unnecessary off-island travel. Our team coordinates cataract surgery referrals while providing both pre-operative and post-operative care locally whenever possible.

  • Laser Surgery Co-Management

We partner with surgical specialists to coordinate care before and after laser vision correction procedures, helping ensure a smooth and successful experience.

  • Dry Eye Treatment

Dry eye symptoms can significantly impact comfort and quality of life. We offer customized treatment plans that may include lubricating drops, warm compresses, lid expression treatments, and low-level light therapy for more advanced cases.

  • Computer Eye Strain

Extended screen time can lead to headaches, fatigue, and blurred vision. We provide solutions such as blue light filtering lenses and Neurolenses® for patients experiencing more persistent or severe symptoms.

Neurolens

Clinically driven and completely transformative, Neurolens corrects eye misalignment to restore clear, comfortable vision and relieve symptoms like headaches, neck pain, motion sickness, and more.
